CD REC
provides year-round recreational, educational and cultural programs for Fall
River residents, with a particular emphasis on social economically disadvantaged
youth. Its goal is to provide a variety of programs ranging from participatory
sports and creative classes to educational presentations and theatrical-musical
performances for those who could otherwise be unable to afford or participate in
these programs.
CD REC is a recreation/prevention-based program that recognizes that a
safe and nurturing environment is necessary for youth to explore their talents
and build self-esteem. CD REC works in conjunction with neighborhood
associations, community service and health agencies, as well as public and
parochial school systems to further expand opportunities for Fall River Youth.
Along with regularly scheduled after school, evening and weekend programs
CDREC provides daylong activities for the youth of our community during summer
months as well as sports clinics and craft classes during February and April
school vacation weeks. Summer events are always very successful and service more
than 30,000 residents each year. CD REC also sponsors the Free Summer Lunch
Program at six city parks and two school sites. During the summer months over
35,800 lunches are provided to children who access free or reduced lunches
during the school year. Many children would not have lunch at all, and for some
it is there only nutritious meal of the day.
Programs sponsored by CD REC are free of charge or carry a minimum
registration fee. CDR strives to meet the ever changing needs of the people it
serves.
